CARE International in PNG is recruiting 2x Project Officers (Entry Level) for its BECOMES Project in Buka.

The Bougainville Cocoa Families Support (BECOMES) Project aims to improve the economic and social wellbeing of younger and older women and men in cocoa farming families in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The Project Officer is responsible for supporting project activities under BECOMES, including delivery of trainings, project monitoring, data collection and administrative support. The role is based in Tinputz district with occasional travel to Buka.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Implementation

  • Participate in the capacity strengthening of small holder families in specified clusters;
  • Ensuring participation of women and youth in the project activities;
  • Providing regular onsite support to the small holder families on cocoa farming;
  • Assist the team to compile and procure materials for project activities such as trainings;
  • Provide logistical planning support to the team for trainings and workshops;
  • Accompany the team to the field to support the roll-out of partner activities and contribute to activity report writing;


Monitoring Evaluation and Learning

  • Assist the team in project monitoring during field visits and ensure timely submission of field reports to the Senior MEL Officer;
  • Participate in data collection for project evaluations, research, and case studies;
  • Participate in quarterly, mid-term, and annual reflection workshops;


Partnerships and Networking

  • Provide clear explanations of the Project and CARE’s work in PNG to partners, communities and other stakeholders to build positive working relationships


Selection Criteria

  • Minimum technical diploma and/or vocational training in Agriculture or a related field and/or minimum 2 years relevant work experience, preferably with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO);
  • Demonstrated capacity building experience in coco farming in Autonomous Region of Bougainville
  • A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities;
  • Proven ability in ensuring the implementation of project activities with limited supervision;
  • Proven ability to manage and acquit a cash advance;
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning, problem solving and team building skills;
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated characteristics in honesty, reliability, trustworthiness with the ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Demonstrated ability to contributes to group objectives and work effectively in a group setting;
  • Intermediate communication skills in Pidgin and intermediate oral and written English; and

Good in Microsoft Office with knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel and intermediate numeric skills
