New college planned for Rigo

Ruatoka Vocational Centre in Rigo District will be converted into a technical college, revealed Member for Rigo, Lekwa Gure.

Plans to convert it are in the pipeline while it is anticipated that the college will open for enrolment in 2020.

Kwikila Secondary School is the only secondary school in Rigo.

While there are plans to upgrade it, there are also bigger plans to establish a technical college to cater for Grade 12 students graduating from Kwikila secondary.

The move to establish a technical college comes after it was identified that Central Province has never had a higher learning institution and is currently in dire need of one, as required by the Service Delivery Framework under the National Planning Act.

Gure said he has had discussions with the TVET Division of the Department of Education and has written to applicable authorities for planning to commence this year, and construction to start in 2019 for the first intake in 2020.

Gure said the college will not only be restricted but will be built with the intention of serving Central Province only.
