A three-year pilot project of eighty solar powered rice mills, currently being tested in thirty communities in the Morobe province will be on display.
The 10th anniversary showcase event will unveil the latest agriculture technologies developed by NARI, who’s released 29 technologies to the farming community to date, many designed to improve crop varieties and farming practices.
The NARI Agricultural Innovation Show has evolved throughout its decade of existence since 2007, with significant improvements to the quality of innovation and participation.
Recently, PNG’s leading rice supplier Trukai Industries strengthened its role with the event by taking a Platinum sponsorship worth K50, 000.
According to Trukai Rice Development Manager Humphrey Saese, Trukai values NARI and its influential roles in creating awareness, promoting and delivering innovations that improve food security across PNG.
The solar powered rice mill which can process 250kg of brown rice or 100kg of white rice per day will be on show again this year.
The income that rice farmers generate from just one harvest and one hectare using the solar powered rice mill is enough to pay for the entire system, while providing many years of milling and energy.
