Applications are sought from suitably qualified persons to fill the following positions within the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
The department offers a four-year undergraduate degree and a graduate masters program in Mechanical Engineering. The department has 16 academic members, 13 technical staff and 3 administrative staff. There are six laboratories in Thermal and Heat Transfer, manufacturing, material science laboratory, thermodynamics that includes refrigeration and air conditioning for students' laboratory work and research, along with a medium size workshop with facilities for machining, milling, a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, EDM, and fabrication including a 3000°C foundry. The department also has an NDT Center for research and consultancy service to industry. There are several researches done in the areas of design and manufacturing, materials characterization, renewable energy and environment, mechatronics, engineering education and refrigeration and air conditioning.
A masters degree (MEng., MSc. or MPhil.) in mechanical engineering or closely related disciplines is preferable with concentrations in the areas of materials, energy, thermodynamics, heat transfer, design, vibrations, air conditioning and refrigeration, and any specializations in mechanical engineering gained from a recognized university is required for this position. The applicant must be a member a professional engineering body such as IEPNG or any other relevant and recognized professional body would be an asset.
The candidates must have at least a minimum of 4 publications published in recognized and peer reviewed conference proceedings or journals and at least 4 years of full time university teaching or 5 years of industrial experience. Familiarity with teaching in distance mode and experienced in using learning management systems such as Google Classroom or Moodle will be an added advantage.
Successful candidates are required to have very good communication skills and willing to take leadership roles in their area of specialization as well as conduct research and teach at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The candidates must be willing to conduct independent research and also to be able to publish papers in conference proceedings and also in journals. The candidate must be willing and eagerness for continual study towards higher degrees.
The candidates must also have the ability to routinely apply for competitive grant funding in their research areas as well as develop links with relevant local industries for collaborative research.
Base Salary Range: Lecturer I PGK38,287 - PGK46,794 per annum
Base DMA Range: PGK9,500 - PGK14,500 per annum
