K2m for people with disabilities

The National Government has allocated K2 million under the recurrent budget for people living with disabilities (PLWD).

Religion, Youth and Community Development Department secretary, Anna Solomon, announced this during the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Port Moresby today.

She said this budget is to give effect to the draft bill for PLWDs.

The draft was initiated by the Department, in collaboration with the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission, who started the process of developing the standalone legislation on disability.

The draft bill will break barriers that the Papua New Guinea Policy on Disability has been trying to address, Solomon stated.

She also added that K2 million is allocated for gender-based violence, which PLWDs also get involved in.
