THE UNIVERSITY

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is located in the industrial city of Lae, the second largest city in Papua New Guinea. The city of Lae has an airport with flights to any location in PNG. The University is the only technological university in the country. It has a main campus and three amalgamated colleges. The main campus has 14 academic departments including a Department of Open and Distance Learning (ODL). It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, natural and applied sciences, built environment, language and business. The university has an Information Technology Services department and a Library.

 

Applications are sought from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Occupational Health & Safety Officer within the Human Resource Department of the University.

 

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER

 

Reporting directly to the Employee Relations Coordinator; the OHS officer will maintain a safe working environment for all University employees. The Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating risk management policies and programs, training employees in occupational health and safety procedures, monitor and audit the workplace, record and investigate incidents to ensure safe and healthy working conditions are maintained at all times.

 

The suitable candidate must be able to plan and write annual Workplace Health and Safety Reports. He/She must have good interpersonal and communication skills, be highly motivated, have high attention to detail, care about employee welfare and have credibility with all employees, maintain personal cleanliness, of sober habits, mature and stable temperament, reliable and conscientious, able to communicate well in oral and written English and make appropriate decision during times of high risk.

 

The successful candidate should have a first degree or higher in Human Resource Management or Environmental Health and Safety with Certificate I, II or III in OHS Management and with 5+ years of relevant work experiences.

 

SALARY:

 

Assistant Registrar  (OHS)       K29, 915.00 – K42, 048.00

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
