PNG set to play ball!

Neighbouring Pacific countries need to watch out as PNG’s basketball team is ready to shine in the 2017 Vanuatu Mini Pacific Games.

The team has been in training over a month and with the support of High Performance Centre, they are ready to make a mark in the 3 x 3 format for the first time.

According to coach Moi Muri, they are focused to take on the countries with the backing of experienced Melanesian basketball champion players like national rep Apia Muri.

He said the men’s team has taken part in the 3 x 3 format in other tournaments and are determined to claim glory in Port Vila.

The team will participate in the event for six days and are expected to play against some very strong countries.

The team has female players too that have represented PNG before and are set to beef up the women’s division.

According to President of Basketball Federation, Nick Daroa, the team has done the country proud in the previous Pacific Games in 2015 and have further played giants such as Australia and New Zealand in a full strength side.

Daroa added that they are confident to give a good result for PNG.

The team left this morning for Port Vila.
