No evidence, murder case dismissed

A murder case against a man has been dismissed in the Committal Court because there was no evidence connecting the defendant to the victim’s death.

Bau Peter from Hela Province was in court over allegations he was involved in the murder of a man on May 27, 2017, at a community hall at Morata, Port Moresby.

Peter and a friend were alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The deceased was also drunk at that time.

The court heard that Peter and his friend were on their way to find liquor and met the deceased. They allegedly robbed him and threw him down the drain.

The deceased was later found dead with rubbish in his mouth.

However, the cause of his death was inconclusive, as stated by the police and medical report.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar dismissed the case against Peter.
