Nine escapees recaptured

The Morobe Provincial police commander, Chief Superintendent, Augustine Wampe has deployed five officers who are now on ground attending to criminal cases.

PPC Wampe said cases regarding murder and consumption of illicit spirits are common at the moment.

Meantime, Wampe said nine escapees were also apprehended recently.

Among the escapes were two men held in relation to murder charges with another held for rape, the six others who were apprehended are yet to be possessed.

Wampe says that the escapees will be transferred to Lae by next week.

New vehicles to help police do jobs

He said his province had been without sufficient police vehicles for almost a decade and the three new vehicles would be a relief to their policing efforts in the province.

"All our vehicles were purchased during the National Elections in 2002 and 2007. That was a long time ago. Most of those vehicles have gone off the road. We are walking on the streets and seeking help.

"Our prayers have been answered and I would simply like to thank our top management at the Police Headquarters," he said.
