National Capital District Governor’s Cup

9 Mile Giants win NCD Governor’s Cup

Mountain Bulls dominated possession early on and took a 4-0 lead at the break.

Buoyed on by their supporters, the boys from 9 Mile came back in the second half to steal the win with a converted try and walk away with K15,000 in prize money.

Mountain Bulls settled for K7,500.

Tournament treasurer, Thomas Mote, said the delay in playing the Cup grand final was the only hiccup in the tournament, but other than that, everything had gone well.

Governor’s Cup final this afternoon

The clash will be between the Mountain Bulls and Nine Mile Giants.

This was confirmed by tournament treasurer, Thomas Mote, this morning.

He said the venue for the final was finally confirmed this week after negotiations.

The Cup division grand final played on January 5 at the Kone Tigers Oval was called off by officials after the heavy downpour that afternoon. After consulting with both teams, a decision was then reached to have a rematch.

Governor’s Cup grand final this Saturday

Last Friday’s Cup division grand final at the Kone Tigers Oval between Mountain Bulls and Nine Mile Giants was called off by officials after the heavy downpour in the nation’s capital.

“We are looking to have the rematch played at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium. We are still negotiating this. We will confirm the time and the venue during the week,” said treasurer Thomas Mote.

The Plate division was won by Urunawini Raiders, while the honors in the Bowl went to D8 Mosquitoes.

D8 Mosquitoes also came good in the Women’s division, winning the grand final.

Governor’s Cup running smoothly

The 15th edition of the annual tournament started on Friday and has 54 teams doing battle at Kone Tigers and Kaugere Oval.

“We’ve had no hiccups and things are going well. No trouble and people are coming out in numbers to watch every day.

“Thank you again to the NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, for continuing to support this. It’s a great way to keep the youths out of trouble during the festive period.”

Mote said the total prize money for the tournament will be confirmed by next week.
