Planning project updates presented to new minister

Officers of the National Planning office were given an opportunity to give brief updates on the status of projects that were working on.

They also outlined their plans on how effective this projects will be on the national level.

Hakaua Harry the secretary for planning said the role of the national planning in the development of this country was an important part.

It was also an opportunity that she saw fit to acknowledge former National Planning minister Charles Abel.

Harry: NID card system vital for development planning

Secretary for National Planning Hakaua Harry says the public must understand that the system in place is a very important database that they’re trying to establish.

Harry said the NID card is not just an identification card, however this system provides basic population counts for the purposes of policy, planning and monitoring.

The NID card system also provides privacy and identity protection of individual citizens in the country.

“The system tells us exactly what kind of population we have and it will contribute to decision making on how we can plan forward.

Desalination ground-breaking in Bipi today

Amongst the team going to Bipi this morning are three Japanese engineers from the Toray Industry, the manufacturers of the desalination plant.

The three arrived in Manus on Wednesday and were welcomed by officers from Sojitz Corporation, (the contractors) engineers of the seawater source well sites, staff from Department of National Planning & Monitoring and the National project manager of the PEC (Pacific Environment Community) fund desalination project, Tom Anayabere.
